I schedule most distance sessions in the afternoons & evenings on Tuesdays, however Monday and Wednesday times are also available.
As of June 2013 I have closed my office in Smithers, B.C. however where appropriate I continue to offer telephone and/or video counselling services to residents of the Bulkley Valley and Northern BC. Distance counselling can be supplemented with regular face-to-face sessions if clients are travelling through the South Okanagan or Similkameen regions.
Having lived and practised in Northern BC for eight years I understand the challenges involved in securing confidential, consistent mental health counselling services. Video appointments, phone appointments or a combination of both can allow you to develop a consistent counselling relationship that will help you to meet your specific therapeutic goals.
How Does Video Counselling Work?
The client downloads VSEE, a free web application designed to offer safe and secure telehealth services. This app connects clients with healthcare providers and is used internationally in many health care disciplines. This client and the provider "meet" online at the designated appointment time and communicate through this video conferencing software.
What is Hushmail?
Hushmail is a free email service that offers higher levels of privacy and security than typical email providers. I recommend that all clients, whether accessing distance or in-person services, consider opening a Hushmail account. Please note that I do NOT offer email counselling. I use this form of communication with clients strictly for scheduling and setting up appointment times.
How do I pay for sessions?
Unless otherwise agreed upon, fees for distance sessions are $120.00 per hour plus GST. Distance sessions can be paid for by email money transfer, Paypal or by mailing a cheque. Credit card payments are not accepted for distance sessions at this time.
If you are a new or returning client feel free to contact me and we can discuss whether phone or video counselling are appropriate for you at this time.
** NEW AS OF 2015 **
Both telehealth and in person services are now covered through the First Nations Health Authority's Short Term Crisis Intervention Mental Health Counselling Benefit (STCIMHC) and through the Indian Residential School Support (IRS RHSP) program. These programs are eligible to Status clients who are not living on reserve.
